Unitus is a global microfinance accelerator, providing high-impact funding and consulting to the highest potential microfinance institutions (MFIs) in developing countries.
Mission:
Unitus's mission is to alleviate poverty and improve the standard of living for millions by accelerating the growth of highest- potential MFIs. Using our proprietary evaluation method of operational and financial metrics, we identify and select those MFIs that have demonstrated a clear ability to design, implement and grow a successful microfinance program. We then launch the MFI on a rapid growth trajectory by providing capital assistance and consulting advice. By providing them with both additional skills and resources, the MFIs can reach dramatically more borrowers within five to seven years. We monitor their progress against benchmarks and then help connect them to sustainable financing sources to ensure their long-term success.

You came here with a curiosity to find out more about Unitus and to possibly help us with our monumental goal. If you do decide to donate, it is fast, easy, and 100% secure. If you don't, thanks anyways for checking this out.
I personally researched dozens of non-profits to partner with and found some great groups doing some amazing things.
However, after seeing what Unitus does, the decision was easy.
Unitus is
the
most impressive non-profit organization I've ever seen. Hands down.
Unitus is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit that provides support to lenders in 3rd world countries and helps them offer "micro" loans to qualified entrepreneurs.
The mini loans are usually less than $100 and are all that is needed for a hard working individual to lift themselves out of poverty forever.
"Micro-finance" is huge right now. In fact, one of its pioneers,
Muhammad Yunus, won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for his work.
Check out these stats that made me realize that choosing Unitus was a no-brainer:
*** 100% of donations received by them go directly to the programs themselves and 0% to administrative costs. All administrative costs are paid for by a private foundation.
*** The leverage banks use to make huge profits, Unitus uses that same leverage to make each dollar go as far as possible.
A new business can be started with only $5. Yes that's right, just $5 dollars.

Each new business created supports 5 people on average.
These people's lives can instantly be changed for the price of a value meal at Wendy's.
*** There is a
whopping 95% repayment history
with all who have received this "mini-funding"
*** With the help of Unitus,
over 1 million people launched their businesses
last year and it's projected to be
4.2 million in 2009
