Designed specifically for old, sick and needy elephants who have been retired from zoos and circuses, the Sanctuary uses more than 2,700 acres. In a protected 2,700 acre natural-habitat environrment former zoo and circus elepahnts receive teh care adn support they need to reciver from the trauma of captivity. As of January 2007, the Sanctuary has rescued 22 elephanta and given refuge to both Asian and African elephants. The Sanctuary is supported entirely by public donations. Founded in 1995 by Asian elephant experts Carol Buckley and Scott Blais the Sanctuary currently is home to 18 elephants and has a membership of over 66,000.
