Join the UMKC Women's Center and the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project for the Third Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence
Note: After Friday, September 18, 2009, we can no longer guarantee availability of shoes. Please continue to register using with the "own" shoes option only. We will try our best to provide shoes; however, our numbers and sizes are limited. If shoes are not available, you can just walk in your regular shoes.
Also, please note that we we are watching the forecast carefully and a decision to postpone the 2009 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes March due to rain will be made no later than 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22 and announced via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and posted on the Women’s Center website and blog, so please stay tuned for the announcement. If we do need to reschedule due to rain, the new date will be Thursday, October 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the University Playhouse.
When: Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Registration/Kickoff: 5:30 p.m.; March: 6:00 p.m.; Cookout: 6:30 p.m. (rain date: Thursday, October 8, 2009)
Where: University Playhouse, UMKC Campus (corner of 51st Street & Holmes Street)
What: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence asks men to walk a mile in women's high-heeled shoes. Walking in women's shoes helps men better understand and appreciate women's experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping improve gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence.
Cost: Students: $15 with own shoes; $20 with our shoes; Non-students: $30 with own shoes; $50 with our shoes. Registration fee includes a t-shirt. Non-walking supporters who wish to eat should register for the meal only -- the cost is $5.
