Founded in 1988 as the Lyme Borreliosis Foundation, today the Lyme Disease Foundation reached millions of people around the world. Since its inception, the LDF has grown to include healthcare professionals, Lyme disease patients, businesses, government and academicians, serving as a central point in a mutual quest for the truth about tick-borne illnesses. It was founded at the urging of researchers desiring an objective link among all the isolated and competing groups studying Lyme disease. The 15-member Board of Directors is comprised of researchers, including the discoverer of the Lyme disease bacteria as well as physicians, business executives and patients. The LDF Scientific Advisory Board reads like a Who's Who in Lyme disease research and treatment.
