Founded in 1952, the Humane Society of Sarasota County seeks homes for the thousands of dogs, cats, kittens and puppies abandoned at its shelter each year. It also educates the public about proper animal care and training, and encourages and provides free and low-cost spaying and neutering, with the ultimate goal of ending euthanasia of adoptable animals. The shelter is open admission, which means no companion animal in need is ever turned away.
