WCH strives to empower the homeless by raising confidence and self-esteem through the Art from the Streets program, computer, living skills, job skills, job training and other programs. These programs allow the homeless a non-violent way to express their views, to become recognized as individuals, and to become self-advocates. The Welcome Mat Day Center provides a safe, caring, non-threatening place for homeless people to be off the streets during the daytime. It also has job opportunities, and makes little demand of those that come in -- thus giving them a break from the demands made by many agencies.
