United Way of Greater Cleveland has been a leader in health and human services for nearly 100 years. Volunteer governed and held to the highest level of integrity by its volunteer leadership, it is a sound fiscal investment for your charitable dollars. In 2008, United Way implemented new funding strategies that are based in research and aligned with the current needs of our community. As a result, United Way volunteers shifted a larger proportion of funds to address basic needs and self sufficiency including emergency food and shelter as well as allocated funds to credit counseling to help residents with overwhelming debt or facing foreclosure, health care for our underinsured and uninsured residents, mentoring to help our kids stay on a positive track and much more. United Way currently funds 202 health and human service programs that help more than 450,000 Greater Cleveland residents every year. United Way’s 211 is a referral resource for people in need. By simply dialing 211, callers are connected to an information and referral specialist who will help them find the right resource for their health and human service problem. 211 information and referral specialists responded to over 206,000 callers in 2009.
