Description: LFA is the nation's leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to finding the causes and cure for lupus through programs of research, education and advocacy. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, we are providing evacuated or displaced individuals lupus information about services available in their present locality, as well as working with policy makers and government agencies to ensure that people with lupus and health professionals have immediate access to information necessary to insure the continuity of quality health care.
Mission: Lupus is a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disease that affects more than 1.5 million Americans, mostly women. However, children and men do develop lupus and women of color are disproportionately affected by the disease. The Lupus Foundation of America seeks to find the causes and cure for lupus, improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, educate health professionals, support individuals with lupus and their families. The LFA has 267 chapters, affiliates and support groups throughout the United States.
