Though few know it by name, the Fund is the non-profit affiliated with the City of Boston that engages youth through summer jobs. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino specifically asked John Hancock to increase its support for this effort through Boston Marathon fundraising. This year, the Fund generated more than 4,200 summer jobs for teens, and more jobs are needed in 2008. Studies indicate teen employment plays a critical role in keeping youth off the street, developing life skills and self-confidence, and preparing them for future success.
