4th and 1 is a FREE football camp for high school students from underrepresented groups held each July in East Lansing, Michigan and Mt. Pleasant, Texas. It is the only football camp in North America to balance sports training with ACT prep and diagnostics, professional development, creative workshops, and life skills classes. Our mission is to propel our student-athletes through high school and college by providing them with individualized athletic, academic, and professional skills development.
Student-athletes take an SAT (Texas)/ACT (Michigan) diagnostic on day one and day five of the camp. On days two to four, students receive three hours of daily, intensive SAT/ACT tutoring. 4th and 1 provides all students with a SAT/ACT review book so they can continue practicing and improving their scores after the conclusion of the camp.
On average, student-athletes experienced a 46-point average gain on the SATs in East Texas. In East Lansing, students experienced an average one-point gain on the ACT (an increase of 40-50 points when converted to SAT scores).
Every applicant is a member of a group that is traditionally underrepresented on college campuses. Examples of such groups include ethnic minorities, prospective first-generation college attendees, first-generation Americans, students from low-income backgrounds, and students from single-parent homes.
