The Foodbank, founded in 1973, provides food and other products to needy people seeking food assistance throughout Los Angeles County. We also energize the community to get involved and support hunger relief through volunteerism, food and fund drives, financial and in-kind support. The Foodbank also conducts hunger education and awareness campaigns and advocates for public policies that alleviate hunger. With the help of hundreds of volunteers and financial supporters, the Foodbank distributed over 45 million pounds of food in 2004. We provide enough food for 36 million meals for the hungry in Los Angeles County each year.
In addition to food distribution, we help provide job-readiness training to those transitioning from welfare to work. Additionally, we make every effort to educate the public about the problem of hunger.
