About One Of Us!
Ivonne, a native of , was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, cancer of the retina, at the age of two. After her diagnosis, both eyes had to be removed to keep the cancer from spreading to her brain, but that didn't stop her. After becoming a citizen in 1991, Mosquera went on to graduate from
Stanford
University
in 1999 with a degree in mathematics. She will be pursuing an MBA at Baruch’s
School
of
Business
this coming September.
Ivonne joined Achilles in 2001. With the support of many guides and volunteers, she has climbed
Mount Kilimanjaro
, completed four Marathons, and now, is ready to train for a century bike ride. Her hobbies also include cross-country skiing, rock climbing, and singing.
Ivonne says, “Through cycling I can really experience the outdoors in my own ways, through my own senses, which driving in a car does not allow me to do. Cycling wouldn’t be possible for me if I didn’t have someone to ride with, and a tandem bike.”
The Achilles Tandem Team is finally here! The Tandem Team, headed by Artie Elefant, hosted its first event on May 7, 2006, the New York City Five Boro Bike Tour. Thanks to the support and encouragement of many friends and family members, all of our volunteer Captains, and athlete Stokers rode on our new Fuji tandem bikes, and completed the 43 mile bike tour! But, we still need you in order to continue growing our cycling program!
We're hoping you can sponsor anything from a wheel spoke, approximately $2, to a bike rack ($35), to one of our new tandems (valued at $550.00), or anything in between! You can even sponsor a Stoker's half of a tandem ($250), or a Captain's half of a tandem ($300). We need the captains in order to ride, you see! Join us! Come on board and help the team continue to inspire the world through the sport of cycling!
If you would like to make a donation via check, please read on.
