Since our founding in 1824, MEEI has been guided by a mission “that the deaf may hear and the blind may see.” Our vision is to be the preeminent world-wide source of advances and leaders in preserving and restoring vision, hearing, balance and voice as well as in curing disorders of the head and neck
MEEI is a non-profit specialty teaching hospital that is dedicated to excellence in the care of disorders that affect the eye, ear, nose, throat, and head and neck. Patients come to MEEI for specialized care from Boston, New England, all throughout the United States, and from 99 countries around the world.
MEEI is a pioneer of research to preserve and restore vision from blinding diseases including macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and others. Extensive research is underway to improve diagnosis and treatment for hearing loss, balance problems and head and neck cancer.
MEEI is the primary teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in ophthalmology and otolaryngology. Each year, approximately 100 residents and fellows participate in one of the most sought-after medical training programs in the country.

Our personal message:
Hi - Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page.
As you probably know, I ran the 2007 Boston Marathon to raise funds for the
Eaton-Peabody Lab
in memory of my late Grandpa Rufus. I expected it to be a great way to honor the memory of the man who was such a large influence on my life. What I didn’t know is that the training, fund-raising, and marathon would produce such great memories.
Training
– I went from no physical activity to completing 26.2 miles! Many a cold winter night was spent doing a run with Nemo the Running Dog by my side. Now I can’t put on a pair of shorts without him racing me to the door.
Fund-Raising
– Thank you to everyone who shared their stories of grandpa and offered words or encouragement. Those stories and words helped, and continue to help, keep me going during training runs and during the marathon last year.
The Marathon
– You’ve probably already heard how the knee that gave me trouble gave out around mile 13 and forced me to mostly walk the rest of the way. That 2007 produced some of the worst weather the marathon has seen. It all turned out to be a blessing. Lousy weather produced fewer spectators, which allowed me to hear each cheer of encouragement from the crowd. I’ll never forget seeing the look in my family’s eyes or my children jumping up and down waving their homemade signs. I had the pleasure of meeting other MEEI runners with their own stories to tell. Being forced to slow down gave me the chance to meet a woman completing her last, of over 20, Boston Marathons.
So I’m back to do it all over again. In Grandpa Rufus’s memory. To support the
Eaton-Peabody Lab
. And again – I need your help, both financially and words of encouragement.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. If you would prefer to sponsor me by check please make it payable to The Foundation of MEEI and mail it to me at 55 Ames St., Medford, MA 02155
I want to thank you in advance for your support, no matter if it is just words of encouragement or a large donation. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward a link to this page to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
