Escondido CA Walk to Feed the Hungry
Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi , Chairman of BGR, and about 50 Monks and Nuns will be leading the BGR (3 Mile) Escondido Walk to Feed the Hungry on October 25, 2012 including all Buddhist denominations.
This is not only a great way to support BGR in its compassionate efforts to help feed those who are suffering from chronic hunger, but also a positive way to spread compassion to our local community by harmoniously gathering together. Mindful walking, generosity, listening to Dhamma talks, and making spiritual friends are great ways to heal, brighten, and develop the mind as taught by the Buddha. Everyone is invited to attend this uplifting event.
People are encouraged to join-in or depart as they need during the 3 mile walk. Everyone is encouraged to set a personal intention before walking, and those who wish to walk mindfully in silence may do so but it is not required. Feel free to walk at your own pace. It will be a time for practice, mindful walking, spreading loving kindness, making spiritual friends, and exercise. The walk will begin and end in Escondido's Grape Day Park, as we raise awareness about world hunger on the sidewalks of Escondido's City Center area.
After the walk, the monks and nuns will eat lunch in the park. Participants are welcome to bring their bag lunch and join-in. This is a chance for conversation and photos.
Many groups will help support the event such as: Deer Park Monastery, The Western Buddhist Monastic Gathering, Aloka Vihara and Karuna Buddhist Vihara.
Please bring a water bottle, sun-hat, and whatever you need for your walk.
Participants are encouraged to wear white clothing if possible, such as a white T-shirt.
Parking and bathrooms are available at Grape Day Park. Public transportation is encouraged.
