Hunger and Homelessness Prevention Drive
Humboldt Park Social Services (HPSS) is a little agency making a big impact. We successfully provide a range of services that meet immediate needs, encourage life changing choices, and support long-term stability. In one hour we can provide a meal, but in one year we can change a life.
Our emergency food programs have served as the first chapter of life changing stories for over 16 years. For many families, accessing groceries or hot healthy meals via our food programs frees up their cash flow so they can continue paying their mortgages, rents and utility bills. This method of homelessness prevention has proven effective, especially during these challenging economic times. When other community residents came by for food, they learned about our supportive service center and were referred there for housing counseling, financial counseling, employment services or case management. A healthy meal is often the first step to making life changing choices that lead to long-term stability.
Participating in our Hunger and Homelessness Prevention Drive will connect you with those currently changing their lives via our programs. You and your organization will champion a current participant’s story of courage and triumph and invite your friends and family to join her in her struggle by investing in HPSS. As able, organizations are encouraged to serve in our soup kitchen to engage with others as they are pursuing a better future as well. Serving in our soup kitchen is known to be a transformative experience for our volunteers, perhaps even more so than our dinner guests. If you are ready to take your organization to the next level of advocacy for hunger and homelessness prevention this November, please contact Jennie Dye at jdye@hpsschanginglives.org or 773-398-0147.
