30 Poems in November!

30 Poems in November!

Welcome to Year III of 30 Poems in November! co-chaired this year by Carol Edelstein & Robin Barber.

Last year, over 80 writers and their family and friends raised a whopping $25,000 for family literacy at Center for New Americans! Family literacy at CNA means immigrant parents and children prepare together for success in school.

Here's how it works.  Writers commit to write 30 poems -- one every day in November - and create a        30 Poems! page.  The page explains why you are writing, and invites friends and family to sponsor each poem that you write.   If they sponsor you at $5 per poem, they pledge $150, i.e, $5 x 30 days.

Writers email this page to as many people as possible to secure sponsors, and publicize participation on Facebook as well.

Sponsors can pledge online through this site.  It is secure and easy.  People who do not wish to pledge online should send their checks directly to the writer they are sponsoring.  The check should be made out to Center for New Americans (not to the writer!)

Here's what one writer said about her participation last year:

“30 Poems in November! was a great writing discipline for me with the added satisfaction of supporting a good cause. I learned to write with less attachment to whether the day’s work would be ‘good’ or ‘bad’ since I’d get another chance tomorrow. The celebratory reading offered a glimpse into the collective consciousness of poets in the Pioneer Valley, closing our year together with poems both humorous and profound.”
