10 Playgrounds in 10 Hours
Welcome to 10 Playgrounds in 10 Hours, the charity fundraising event for kids, by kids.
All proceeds from this year’s 2012 inaugural event benefit: Children’s National Medical Center.
When: Saturday, October 20th (rain date October 27th), 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Where: Playgrounds, backyards, and parks across the D.C., MD, and VA region, maybe even across the country!
What is 10 Playgrounds in 10 Hours: A new, unique fundraiser where kids are directly involved in planning and best of all participating in this fun and special day.
Who should participate: Kids and families who want to make a difference and have fun doing it (hopefully joined next time by kids that were helped by this event).
Each team is led by a child who works with parents, family, and friends to plan the details of a unique itinerary. Using maps, apps, and other resources, the child helps decide which ten playgrounds to visit and in what order (repeats count).
Questions to aid in planning: How will we get to each playground (walk, bike, skateboard, car)? What is the best route? When are lunch time, snack times, rest times? How long should we stay at each playground accounting for travel time? Who is the time-keeper?
Obtain pledges from family, friends, neighbors, classmates, parents' co-workers, etc. beforehand. Accounting is simple: Ex: Collect 50% of pledges if 5 playgrounds are visited, up to 100% for all ten.
Registration and Donations: You may register and donate pledges directly from this website, but if paying by check, please make payable to Children's Hospital Foundation and please be sure to write 10 Playgrounds in the memo section so we can track how well we did!
Here are some side benefits for parents to consider: This is an all-day family bonding opportunity with fresh air and exercise; children may also learn or improve skills in working with a team, with maps and GPS, mathematics, telling time and time management, and planning and leadership skills.
