It was December of 2005. I was very active playing hockey with a college team in the winter months, and playing softball and fishing in the summer. It was during a trip to Iowa with the hockey team that I first noticed something was wrong. I didn't have the same amount of energy that I was used to and I was gaining weight. As my weight went up, I tried to work out harder. After a few days my weight was up 20 pounds. After several visits to my primary care physician, I was referred to a Nephrologist. That is when my life changed forever. I was diagnosed with a kidney disease. Kidney disease is not treatable and is uncureable. I ended up gaining over 150 pounds of fluid as my kidneys failed. I am now dependent on dialysis to stay alive. However as difficult as times have been, I consider myself lucky to have a second opportunity at life. I am hoping to one day have a transplant. That is the true gift of life. Thank you for your support.
