Christopher's Haven was founded by Dan Olsen, a Boston-based actor, singer & songwriter who is also a three time cancer survivor. He saw first hand how many families struggle with finding lodging during their stay. But Christopher's Haven is much more than lodging. It is, as the tagline says,"a home for kids when cancer hits home."
Here is what one young mother told us about her experience. Her baby was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 15 days old. When he was 1 year he received proton radiation treatment at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children in Boston. The family stayed at Christopher's Haven. "From my very first phone call to Christopher's Haven, I felt such a sense of relief. I remember hanging up the phone sobbing. It was as if the people at Christopher's Haven had read my mind. They "got" what it was like to be the parent of a child with cancer! I vividly remember our first night at Christopher's Haven.I had made lists of things we would need to get and buy for our stay. After unpacking I crossed so many things off the list because Christopher's Haven had thought of everything. There were even groceries in the refridgerator until we could get to the store. We breathed a huge sigh of relief and were able to relax just a little bit because Christopher's Haven already felt like our home away from home.
