On April 16, 2007 I will be running the Boston Marathon in a effort to raise funds for Thompson Island Outward Bound. I have been an employee of Thompson Island for seven years and I feel privleged to support its mission, which is a not-for-profit organization whose primary purpose is to provide adventurous and challenging experiential learning programs that inspire character development, compassion, community service, environmental responsibility and academic achievement. Our organization principally serves early adolescents from all economic and social communities of greater metropolitan Boston, and the institutions and adults who support them.
The main focus is on the Choices expeditions, which bring middle-schoolers from Boston Public Schools to Thompson Island for five days of community-building, confidence-building and self-reliance. Students go through our ropes courses, climb our climbing structures, cook for themselves, camp out in many types of weather, and emerge as a stronger, more compassionate group.
Seven years ago running 26.2 miles would never have crossed my mind as something I would be able to complete. Today through the inspiration of the thousands of students who I have seen pass through Thompson Island I realize that I can do anything I set my mind to. I want to be a leader in this journey of self challenge and feel that this is the right opportunity.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and remember no donation is insignificant and we appreciate any help you can give us.
