My personal message:

Hello, thank you for visiting my Fundraising page. Donations through this site are simple, fast and totally secure.  This page is for donations to support the Team Hope Walk-San Antonio, Texas on September 12, 2009. Thank your for your support and please feel free to share this page with anyone you know that might also wish to donate to our Walk.

A lot of you know that I lost my son Gilbert to HD in December 2007 and my daughter Gerri is fighting HD as she lives in a nursing home in Louisiana close to her older brother. I continue my work with HDSA for my children and my grandchildren of course, but as you continue to read, you will understand that many others also keep me in this fight for people living with HD.

Last year I met Carlos here in San Antonio. On our first meeting Carlos was 9 years old and after several years of trials for him and  his family, he was diagnosed with HD in March 2008. In the picture above you can see my friend Carlos, next to me in the cowboy hat, and another friend on the left side of the picture, the lady with the sun visor and bag in her hand. These 2 brave people are an example of  the age range for people with HD. Carlos is 10 in this picture, and has been fighting HD for ?? years, and Ruth is in her 60s...  This is a very good example of the birth to death age range that people with HD face in their life time.

I was told of another 10 year old child with HD here in San Antonio, but do not know the family. Do they know that they are not alone in this fight? Are they finding the support we all need. Until we educate the public and professionals better, we must continue to do all we can to help families as well as support research.

This gives you an example of what any family with HD goes through. Because of the age range of onset, some have Juvenile HD and many others have already had extended families before learning anything about HD. Because the Huntingtin gene is required for birth and there is a  "Normal", "Normal highly mutable ",  and the Positive range, HD can show up in a family where there is no family history to be passed on or hide.

At this time we do not have a good CONTROL or CURE for HD but with the help of families and friends, we can raise funds that will help us find the control or cure. Please join us in the fight, and know that you are helping to make the difference.

Thank you to all off line donors also. ;0).. some unnamed friends, Marcia W, Linda G-W, Lynn C, Rita C, Barbara & Greg &Lauren & Gregory, Nonnie, Rusty & Mary Kay& Megan, Gerri, Chris & Linda, Betty P., Teresa R., Nadine M.,  Helene H., Myrtle F., Bernard  S.

love, peace and prayers for all,
Gerleine
