Across the world, over 6,000 children every day are losing one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. The problem is enormous and clouds the future of these children with fear and uncertainty. But now you can make a significant difference for the children in one community in the country of Zambia-and have a lot of fun doing it! Your personal fund-raising goal of $250 or more will make a huge difference in providing a school for these children.
Through Hoops of Hope and World Vision, you can directly help in the building of a school in the community of Twachiyanda that will provide an education for 430 children who range in age from 7 to 16 years old. Currently, many children in this community must walk more than 6 miles to get to school. This is simply to far for a child of 7 or 8 to walk and has prevented some children from starting school at the appropriate age and grade.
The school we will help build this year is the Johnathan Sim Legacy School, named in honor of World Vision employee Johnathan Sim, who passed away in 2005. Johnathan's lifetime passion to serve these children will live on through this school, as it will provide the education opportunity these children need-right in their own community. Any funds raised beyond those needed to build the Johnathan Sim Legacy School will be designated toward helping other children in this community, or another community similarly impacted by HIV/AIDS.
