The Jennifer Hunter Yates Sarcoma Foundation was created in memory of Jennifer Hunter Yates who died at the age of 33 in 2004 due to two different forms of sarcoma. Each year we host The 12,402 Steps to Cure Sarcoma Walk in Hudson Massachusetts during the month of May. This years walk will be held on May 9, 2015.
Sarcoma is a rare cancer that appears in a variety of tissue structures, including nerves, muscles, joints, and bone. Most frequently, sarcomas are found in the limbs which contain most of the body's connective tissues. Tumors are often hiddden deep in the body, making early diagnosis difficult.
Sarcomas are most prevalent in children, making up 20% of all childhood cancers, and also in young adults. At any one time, an estimated 50,000 patients in the United States are battling sarcoma. Another 10,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
JHYSF is dedicated to helping patients and families. During our last 10 walks we have raised 1.1 million dollars which has already had an impact on sarcoma patients and families at Massachusetts General Hospital Sarcoma Cancer Center. Please consider joining us for this years walk, or kindly make a donation.
