The George Pocock Rowing Foundation has established an endowment to honor Emil's legacy as a visionary and coach.
From the time he arrived in the United States in 1992 to the time of his death, Emil worked passionately to advance the cause of amateur athletics in the United States and Canada . As a rowing coach, he built a successful high performance rowing program on his knowledge of science and love of the sport, despite limited resources. He trained numerous rowers to make it to the US National Team, with 28 medaling in international competition. Even when he left Pocock Rowing Center to be Canada ’s Performance Technology Advisor, he remained a champion for finding stable, sustainable funding for coaches of rowing. In Canada , he directed his efforts at training coaches to integrate sports performance technology into their regular training and coaching. As a tireless advocate of amateur athletes and coaches, Emil touched the lives of many in the sporting world. The George Pocock Rowing Foundation has established the Kossev Endowment to honor his life’s work. Though Emil did not always have a financially stable platform from which to launch his goals, we hope others will.
When fully funded, the endowment will provide the sustainable resources, benefits, and technological support necessary for high performance rowing coaches to experience success, balance, and personal stability.
