A group of Rhode Islanders who had a desire to localize their volunteer and charitable efforts created LIFEcycle, Inc. to promote healthy, active living and support local healthcare. With a small, focused and dedicated board of directors leading the way, LIFEcycle maintains a lean budget with no overhead and limited administrative costs. LIFEcycle’s flagship event is a bike-a-thon, Ride ‘Round Rhody (RRR), that raises money for cancer treatment. In its first three years, RRR participants raised more than $75,000 for cancer treatment at local hospitals. In 2009, Team LIFEcycle was created to advance the promotion of healthy, active living. This multi-sport team is comprised of recreational athletes who participate in local and regional races and charity events to promote the organization and its mission. LIFEcycle also runs a Healthy, Active Living program. This program hosts two monthly fitness classes, for cancer survivors and bariatric surgery patients.
