Tomorrow is the day!!!! ! I cannot wait to get this run over with now!!
Thank you to all who have donated. For those who haven't here is a little about me and the Vision Rehabiliation Center at Mass Eye and Ear.
This is going to be my first marathon and my motivation to do such a crazy event is explained below.... As most of you know, I work as an occupational therapist in the department of Vision Rehabilitation at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. By Vision Rehab I mean that I see patients who all have low vision (vision of 20/70 or lower). Some have had experiences with vision loss since they were young and others have suddenly lost vision due to accidents, tumors, macular degeneration, glaucoma, etc. Every day through treating my patients I experience how how vision loss impacts every aspect of daily life. Here are some examples of what my patients go through... -loss of ability to drive and the independence that goes along with that -increased risk of falling -difficulties reading- their mail, signs on the street, the daily newspaper, restaurant menus -difficulties dialing the phone -difficulties remaining financially independent- writing checks, telling the difference between dollar bills ($1, $5, etc) and coins -participation in our hobbies Vision loss can lead individuals to feel like they have lost their independence and self-efficacy, which often results in depression. THE POSITIVE SIDE to vision loss is the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the incredible patient care that is provided there. Even when patients feel like there is no hope (which can happen often when they are told there are no medical treatments to improve their vision) there is hope- VISION REHAB!!!! At Vision Rehab patients can regain their life again by learning to use their remaining vision to read again, pay their bills, cook their meals for themselves, etc. What more can I say....if I can put myself through training and completing the Boston Marathon to support the continuation of superb eye care at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary my hope is that you can help by donating some $$$ to ensure that it HAPPENS! THANKS A BUNCH!!! Please forward this page onto your friends, family, coworkers who you think might want to donate too!
