Outward Bound Philadelphia was established in 1992 by local community leaders seeking to inspire disadvantaged area youth through challenge and adventure — to show them that they have more inside themselves than they ever thought possible. Our mission is to increase self-awareness, self-confidence, communication, leadership, and problem solving skills of low-income students in Philadelphia — to give them the ability to complete high school, college, and enter the workforce, and to help them realize and fulfill their utmost potential. Today over 4,000 Philadelphia youth annually participate in our life-changing programs, and since our founding we have served more than 20,000 individuals from public, independent and charter schools, youth-serving organizations, businesses, civic organizations and other local institutions.
