The Institute was born to provide an educational forum for people to connect with nature. Through arts, literature and science, the Institute inspires and enables people to actively engage in the conservation and stewardship of Pennsylvania’s natural places.
Connection and Conservation
Institute programs are intended to provide an intimate, personal experience and foster a strong kinship with nature. Being tightly connected to the earth and its natural wonders can bring about a lasting feeling of protection and thus conservation.
Education and Engagement
Institute programs reach beyond one-time learning experiences. We strive to engage our participants throughout the year by cultivating a sense of community and by incorporating conservation service and outreach as core values and components of our programs.
Collaboration and Community
All Institute programs are partnership programs. We connect people with their local conservation resources, such as local parks, nature centers, preserves, natural resource professionals, and other naturalists. We forge strong collaborations with organizations to achieve common goals and increase awareness, education, and community-based conservation.
We are a small nonprofit organization, with only 2 fulltime staff. In addition to developing and delivering PICE's exceptional programs, we also work to raise the funds needed to support these programs. But we can't do it alone.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 by December 31st so that the we can continue to offer vital services and programs including the Pennsylvania Master Naturalist volunteer program and Wildlife Leadership Academy for teenagers.
