Assisi for Peace Walk 2010
Saturday, May 29, 2010 9:00 a.m.
Genesee Valley Park - Rochester, NY
Thanks to all of our walkers and supporters last year, we raised over $9,000 that was given to four not-for-profit organizations in the Rochester, NY area. (Shepherd Home, St. Joseph's House of Hospitality, Bethany House and Rainbow Guard). The walk is to both promote peace and to raise money for your not-for-profit organization which provides valuable service to our community. For example, if your 501c3 group raises $2,000, the first $100 will go to the Assisi Institute to help us cover the costs of the walk, and the remaining $1900 will be split 50/50 - with $950 going directly to your charity! On the day of the walk we'll have music, breakfast and lunch, T-shirts, raffles and more! So join us! Raise needed monies for your organization and let's work and walk together as we...
PROMOTE PEACE - One Person At A Time.
The goal of the Assisi Peace Project and the Peace Walk is to create peace through a contemplative lifestyle. The funds that come from the Assisi for Peace Walk and other donations designated for the Peace Project support children's orphanages, service projects, and outreach programs including classes, seminars, workshops, retreats, written and record publications and guest speakers. The Inspiration:
If global harmony is ever to become a lasting reality; it must first flow from a place of interior personal peace, one person at a time. Thus, "The Assisi Peace Project". - Craig N. Bullock, Founder and Spiritual Director of The Assisi Institute.
On October 27, 1986, Pope John Paul II convened an historic gathering of diverse believers in Assisi, Italy for the expressed purpose of praying for peace. The Pope chose Assisi as the gathering place because the spirit of St. Francis has transformed it into a city of universal brotherhood and sisterhood. Even to this very day, Francis continues to challenge believers of all faiths to be people of prayer and peace.
Imagine the Pope, the Dali Lama, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Protestants, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Native Americans, and other believers standing shoulder to shoulder, praying for peace, in the spirit of blessed Francis. Together, they expressed a universal hunger for harmony among all of God's children. Surely, God was pleased.
Inspired by the example of Francis and the spirit of Assisi, we invite you to participate in the "Assisi for Peace Walk 2009". Together, we will walk, laugh, raise money for worthwhile causes, and pray for peace. And, God will smile on us all.
This walk is to both promote peace and to raise money for your not-for-profit organization which provides compassionate services to the community.
