Marvin Memorial Walk for the Animals

The Marvin Memorial Walk for the Animals is the Rhode Island SPCA’s major annual fundraiser. The walk is held in memory of our shelter mascot, Marvin the black lab, who helped raise $250,000 for the RISPCA during his lifetime. On August 27, 2011, we will hold our 9th Annual Marvin Memorial Walk for the Animals at Goddard State Park in Warwick, Rhode Island. Last year, this community event was voted Best Pet Event by readers of The Animal Print Magazine, hosted over 300 people and their dogs from throughout the state, and raised $32,000 for the animals in our care.

Why Raise Money for the Rhode Island SPCA?

The money raised at the Walk goes directly toward helping our animals by providing food, shelter, veterinary care, and a chance for a new home. This community event is anticipated by pet lovers throughout the state. You won’t want to miss it! We invite you to get involved by collecting pledges for the walk, starting a fundraising team of walkers, and bringing your dogs for an excellent day in the park. It is all for a good cause and the animals thank you for your support!

The Rhode Island SPCA...celebrating 140 years

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is governed by a Board of Directors. The RISPCA is not affiliated with any national, state, or government agencies and relies on private donations, special events, and grants for operating expenses. The Society was the first humane organization in Rhode Island and is the 3rd oldest humane organization in the United States. At 140 years old, we are the only animal rescue organization in the state of Rhode Island that is empowered to investigate and prosecute cases of animal cruelty and neglect. The Society is charged with the sole purpose of protecting animal life in all situations that might endanger them. We are dedicated to crusading for the rights and welfare of all animals great and small through legal, educational, and investigative means. Regardless of need, the mission of the RISPCA is to safeguard the well being of all creatures and advocate for the rights and humane treatment of those who cannot speak for themselves.
