My personal message:
Hey Everybody!

This will be my first Boston Marathon, and undoubtedly will be a memorable event.  I am running to raise money for Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, one of the top hospitals in the nation.  Your donation will go a long way to aid in the research and treatment of illnesses of the eyes, ears, throat, and nose.  Boston Red Sox pitcher Craig Hansen was treated for sleep apnea at Mass Eye and Ear last November so you know they're good!

Thanks for your support of Mass Eye and Ear as well as my passion for running.  I couldn't do it without your help!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

10 Best Things About Marathons:

10. Being able to call yourself a marathoner.

9. Complete strangers cheering you on during the race.

8. Working the rest of your life around your training schedule.

7. Training in extreme conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, snow) that make others question your sanity.

6. Carbo-loading the week before the marathon...eat, eat, eat.

5. Cross-training days - an intense workout at the gym as a break from running.

4. Post marathon aches and pains...a feeling unlike anything else.

3. Gu - the best energy gel out there, an awesome boost and key to getting through 26.2 miles.

2. Friends and family putting up with everything to stand outside for 5 hours just to see you run by...but mentally as big a energy boost as Gu.

1. The last .2 miles of the race, when the end is in sight and you get one last shot of adrenaline.  This is your moment of glory and makes all your sacrifices and training from the past 4 months absolutely worth it, and you realize that you will definitely run a marathon again.
