Spokes For Folks
Yes, Spokes for Folks will happen RAIN or SHINE -- see you Saturday!
Since 1988, SHAG has been a substantial provider of affordable housing to seniors. To mark our 25-year milestone, we are holding our first annual Spokes for Folks bike ride on the Interurban Trail - starting and ending at our New Haven Residential Community in North Seattle!
Spokes for Folks offers 10k, 25k and 75k route options with Celebration Stations at each turnaround point.
At the finish line, all riders are invited to attend an open house, community celebration and complimentary BBQ lunch.
Huge thanks to our Spokes for Folks Sponsors, whose donations have already covered the cost of the event! We are delighted to announce that 100% of the dollars raised by our Spokes for Folks riders and teams will go directly to support the SHAG Community Life Foundation.
Where are we riding? The start and finish line is at the New Haven Senior Living building in Bitter Lake neighborhood, 13000 Linden Ave N, Seattle. Three Celebration Stations mark the turn-around points for our 10K (Shoreline), 25K (Lynnwood), and 75K (Everett) distance options.
When are we riding? Saturday, September 28, 2013. We'll have staggered start times depending on your distance option: check in as early as 6:30 am. We suggest you start your ride at: 7:00 am for the 75K round trip, 10:30 am for the 25K round trip, and 11:30 am for the 10K round trip. All riders will join up together at the finish line for lunch, the prize ceremony and celebration.
Are there prizes? You bet! Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Strongest Fundraising Team, Strongest Fundraising Individual, Youngest Rider, Oldest Rider, Best Team Costume and Best Individual Costume. Riders who have individually raised $1,000 or more will receive a high-quality bike jersey! And every registered rider takes home a T-shirt and a goodie bag.
What's for lunch? Barbecue buffet lunch offered to all registered riders, with a vegetarian option of course.
What if I don't ride a bike? Can I still get involved? Yes please! You can form a 'virtual bike team' and raise funds for the SHAG Community Life Foundation without ever touching a bike. On September 28th, you can join us for the lunchtime celebration, or volunteer to support our bikers . . . or just stay home and cheer us on from afar. Anything goes!
