For the families of little ones with life-threatening illnesses every day can be a challenge.  That's why Ronald McDonald House at Stanford creates a "home-away-from-home" and supportive environment so the families can focus on their number one priority: the health of their child.

The House features 47 guestrooms, a Children's Activity Room, Teen Recreation Center, Computer Center, family library, and fitness center.  Shared areas such as a large kitchen and dining room, TV rooms on each floor and a multi-purpose "great room" create a sense of community among the families.  In an environment where tubes, bandages, and needles are a part of nearly every family's daily life, the House also provides a bit of respite through weekly programs like Kids Can Cook, Arts and Crafts Night, and Bingo.

Since the House opened in 1979, the donation requested from the families has remained at a modest $10 per night and no family is ever turned away due to inability to pay.  In order to keep the cost so low, the House fundraises over 85% of its budget through the generosity of community members, businesses and foundations.
