Help The Emaciated Homeless Freeway Dogs

Help The Emaciated Homeless Freeway Dogs

Three dogs, a Dad named "Apollo", a Mom named "Phoenix", and their pup "Hope", were found living off the side of the 710 Freeway. They have been staying as warm as they could, finding shelter in a drain pipe nearby. All three are extremely emaciated, scared and unhealthy. A team of amazing volunteers dedicated their time and energy into trapping and transporting these poor babies. They are now in our hands and we are faced with some big challenges. All three are very scared of human contact. It is possible they have been on their own for up to a year. They all have medical problems we need to take care of asap. "Hope" needs an eye removed that seems to have been injured some time ago and "Phoenix" has a fractured leg that she has been walking on for a very long time. They all need to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, medicated, well fed and that is just the start. All health problems aside, they are going to need a ton of love and patience. The Pet Rescue Center needs your support in bringing these pups back to life. Thank you!

Update 1-24-12

Our 3 freeway dogs Apollo, Phoenix and Hope, are making great progress. It has been 4 short weeks since they were rescued from the side of the 710 Freeway. They were about as feral as they get, and we have been working with them to the best of our ability. Apollo (Dad) took about a week to get the courage to walk outside of his cage. Once he got outside and saw that people were not going to hurt him, he was ready for the attention he must have wanted for quite some time. He is a fantastic dog! He is still a little submissive, but always smiling and wagging his tail. He gives great kisses too!

Hope (the baby) is almost a different dog. The first 3 days after arriving, Hope wanted nothing to do with us. She often lunged at us in fear and ripped every leash we managed to get on her to shreds in minutes. After her surgery, when she was spayed, microchipped, and had a very wounded and infected eye removed, she awoke as if she was just born. Maybe it was medication, and maybe she just felt better, but she has been crawling in our laps ever since. She is one of a kind and is going to make someone very happy some day soon. She loves to play, pounce, kiss and boy does she like to SING!

Phoenix (the Mom) has had the hardest time adjusting. We have reason to believe she has always been feral, never knowing human touch. She has been very fearful the entire stay and seems to have no desire for human interaction. We have been very discouraged with her progress, until today. Today, after 4 weeks, Phoenix got a butt scratch! She doesn’t think she wants it, but she sure did tolerate it. We are very happy to see her making progress even if it is very small. We still believe she would do better in a foster home, but until we find someone, we will keep trying. All in all, this family of three is healthy, thankful and full. If you would like to donate towards their medical and boarding bills so that we may continue to care for them, it will go a long way. Thank you to everyone following their amazing journey with us.
