Thank you for coming to check out my Run Over To Ellen's fundraising page to benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind! What I'm doing is running from my home in Montana to the Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank CA to see a taping of the Ellen tv show. Since I am legally blind, to literally run over to Ellen's tv show  in the real world, well let's just say that logistically it is a little untenable right now. So I figured instead, I could do a virtual Run Over To Ellen's. 

We got out the map (actually MapQuest.com did) and calculated the mileage from my house in Montana to the Warner Brothers Studios where the Ellen tv show is taped. It turns out it's 1,222.25 miles. Luckily I don't live on the East Coast or I'd be running for two years, huh? :)

If I run 36 miles a week in my hometown (where I can safely run with confidence), I can "make it to" Burbank by the end of the year.  I'm hoping to get 4 tickets to see a taping of the Ellen tv show sometime in that last week before they wrap up shooting for the holiday break at the end of the year.

So, why Guide Dogs for the Blind? Obviously there's a connection to the fact that I am legally blind. Even though right now, I don't need a guide dog, and I do quite well with my white cane when I need it, it's nice to know that there are such committed and loving organizations out there that  raise and train not only the Guide Dogs for the Blind, but they are committed to the training of the visually-impaired recipient with the dog, as well.

So we've set a lofty goal to raise $30,000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind, but in reality, it's not that big. I say that because we only need 30,000 people to donate  $1.00 each and we'll have met our goal. I know that with your help, we can reach way more than 30,000 people by December. And I know that everyone can spare $1.00. Of course if you want to contribute more, you certainly can. In an ideal scenario we'd love to raise $50,000. But we'll start with $30k and go up from there...

You can also donate by the mile if you'd prefer. So, a donation of $1.00 per mile would be a $1,222.25 donation. 6 cents per mile would be $73.34. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

And once you've donated, we'll send you a link to the VIP Access page for my video blog where you can track my progress on all 3 fronts. Namely, my mileage accumulation, your donation/fundraising progress towards the goal, as well as how things are coming in my quest to get 4 Ellen Degeneres tickets to see a taping of the Ellen tv show in December, 2009.
