This years event is set for Saturday, September 10, beginning at Monclova Elementary School.  Register by August 31 to receive your free commemorative t-shirt.

All proceeds from the Walk With Sunshine directly benefit residents and clients of Sunshine, a non-profit organization in Maumee, OH, that provides residential, vocational and family support services to over 1,000 individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.  In 2010, Sunshine celebrated its 60th anniversary as a place where people with developmental disabilities are encouraged to learn, to grow and to reach their highest potential.

Registration will begin at 7 AM in the Monclova Elementary School Community Room.  The 5K Run starts at 8:30 AM on a certified course along Black Road, and the Walk begins at 9:30 AM along the Wabash Cannonball Trail.  Pre-registration entry fee is $15, and $10 for children 12 & under.  Day of Registration fee is $20. 

Awards will be given to runners in the following age groups: Overall and Overall Master Male and Female; Awards to top three in each age group (no duplication of awards): 14 & Under; 15-19; 20-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 & Over.

The Walk is non-competitive and features a scavenger hunt, a children's activity area and much more.  Leashed pets are welcome.

WALK WITH SUNSHINE HISTORY

The original Walk With Sunshine was inspired by Jeff Alt's 2,160 mile trek along the Appalachian Trail in 1998 in honor of his brother, Aaron, a resident at Sunshine.  The first Walk raised $16,000 for adaptive equipment and communication devices, establishing the fundraiser as an annual event that has since raised more than $180,000 for residents and clients of Sunshine.
