5th Annual April Autism Awareness 5k Walk/Run
For many who are unfamiliar with autism and the growing number of children affected, a study done in 2009 by the Association of Pediatrics states that 1 in 91 children are affected by autism. One treatment available for this ever growing condition is Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA therapy for short. This effective one-to-one intensive treatment has been reported by the Surgeon General of the United States to be the most effective way to treat autism (according to Rosenwasser et al., 2002). For these and so many other reasons, Alpine Autism Center became one of the first organizations in Colorado Springs to offer this important and effective therapy in a treatment center setting.
As of August 2011, we outgrew our original facility and found a larger building located in beautiful Mountain Shadows at 2760 Fieldstone Rd. Our new home will allow us to expand and grow even more, giving us the ability to affect the lives of many more people in our community.
This fundraising event will help us purchase and maintain our new facility as part of our Capital Campaign and continue our mission to provide proven one-to-one ABA therapy, family support, and advocacy to those affected by autism in the Pikes Peak Region. To add to the excitement of this years race we have also held a contest to find the perfect theme. We have voted on the number one theme and thanks to Becky Hernandez, our 5th Annual walk theme will be " Unlocking the mysteries, Finding the keys"!!
Please join us on April 21, 2012 at America the Beautiful Park for Alpine Autism Center's 5th Annual April Autism Awareness 5k walk/run to help us raise money to continue to achieve our mission of providing services to as many families as possible.
We would also like to thank all of our sponsors and The Cari Del Trio for providing live music for the event!!
