About Autism and Autism Delaware
Autism is a developmental disability primarily affecting the areas of the brain governing social and communicative function. In 1995, autism was found in 1 in 2,500 births, but today that number has risen to 1 in 110. Your support will strengthen our work in providing individuals and families affected by autism with support, education, and advocacy services such as:
- Sponsorship of speakers and other educational events on autism or disability-related issues
- Teen game nights to practice social skills
- Productive Opportunities for Work & Recreation (POW&R)- our self-directed support service for adults with autism
- Parent Mentoring and Coffee Hours
- Family social events such as skating parties and hayrides
- A quarterly newsletter to 1,400 households/organizations
Every week, Autism Delaware hears from families who have encountered a new challenge: a diagnosis, a challenging behavior, questions about the latest treatment in the news, or not knowing how to plan for their child's care when they are no longer able to. In order to operate a professional organization throughout the state that can provide these families with the information and services they need, we rely on the generosity of our donors and the Delaware community.
Thank you for your support.
