Since 1988, AHS has provided HIV programming for Asian and Pacific Islanders in Alameda County that focuses on prevention, education, testing and counseling, and research. AHS is one of the few providers of HIV/AIDS services in Alameda Country that caters specifically to the API community offering unique services such as language interpretation and direct health care services.

Today, there is still a lot of progress that needs to be made regarding HIV in the API community. Data from the DPH reports that Asian Pacific Islanders make up only 7.6% of all at-risk testers in Alameda county, a small percentage compared to the 24% of API population in Alameda County that exists. API is also the highest group to be diagnosed with AIDS within one year after HIV diagnosis.

You can make a difference!

Raise awareness around the current risk of HIV in the API community of Alameda County by supporting prevention and education programming. The Strike a Pose Yogathon invites participants--novices to seasoned yogis--to practice 90 yoga poses in the park with professional instruction. Participants are sponsored by their family members, friends, and co-workers, and have the opportunity to exercise both their body and voice to raise awareness of the importance of HIV programming in the API community.
