On Saturday, February 9th, I will be plunging into the freezing-ice-cold waters of Long Island sound for cash. Can you believe it??
Of course, the money isn't for me to spend on yarn. All money raised will support the Burroughs Community Center of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Not only do they have afterschool programs for local youth, the building also houses Big Brothers, Big Sisters and my very own place of work, the Connecticut Juvenile Justice Alliance (if you didn't already know, I'm a policy associate there!).
Additionally, the whole 3rd floor of the historic building is completely taken up by RYASAP, a catalyst for change-- a non-profit that works in the Greater Bridgeport area and runs the Youthspeak program, the Alliance (where I work!), Public Allies, and Safe Neighborhoods AmeriCorp Partnership (or SNAP, natch).
Long story short, they're fantastic, and a great way make a donation that you can be sure will be put to good and responsible use to make a real difference in people's lives.
You can check out pictures of me in training for the big day here: Freezin' for a Reason Training #1.
And for every $100 I raise, I will do another freezing training session!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Thank you soooo much for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
And I promise you, there will be plenty of pictures!!
