Hello Family & Friends:
So here it goes.
The Short Version
As most of you know I sing with the New York City Gay Men's Chorus. It has had a profound impact on my life which I find hard to describe in words. I've cried on stage, I've laughed...I' ve had moments of complete terror before hitting the stage and euphoria while on stage. I've made great friends and found a community of like minded amazing men. We continue to examine every aspect of our finances, retiring debt, lowering our operating costs and making difficult decisions that will allow us to continue our mission. On the brink of our 30th anniversary, the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus is about to cease to exist unless some needed funds come in this summer. I know these are tough times for everyone. Can you donate. $5 makes us happy. $50 thrills us. Even more we’re ecstatic! The Not As Short Version (you know I’m chatty) Three years ago this September I sat outside an audition room in midtown. I was auditioning for the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. I heard one beautiful voice after another and a "few squealers". I was sweating, my hands were shaking. "I can't believe I'm singing Barry Manilow" played over and over in my head. " I called my friend Emmett and said "I’m not sure I can do this." He said "Yes you can". And I did. From Carnegie Hall to the Bronx today I'm a proud Tenor 1. And every time we sing, whether onstage at Carnegie Hall, or in front of a small audience at a Fortune 100 company’s Diversity Day, or auditioning for America’s Got Talent on NBC, we spread a message of joy, love and pride. Even in New York City, even in 2009, it makes a profound statement for over 200 men to stand together and sing as the “New York City Gay Men’s Chorus.” We hear stories from teens who came to a concert and realized they were not alone. From adults struggling to accept their sexual orientation later in life who draw strength from our voices. From family members, friends and allies who simply love the fun and flair we bring to every concert. With your help we can have a very exciting 2009-2010 season which includes:
Thank you so much!
