On Sunday September 20th, Dexy Midnight Goose and I will be walking to raise much needed funds for Dachshund Rescue of North America during the WoofStock event held by CPAA (Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance) in Harrisburg, PA.
This is a cause close to my heart because I adopted my sweet Dexy in Jan 08 from DRNA and he is the sunshine of my life. He was picked up at a shelter in TN and was abused, beaten, and had his spirit broken. I've never met a more anixious and fearful dog in my life. But through the love and care of his foster mom, he became to understand that humans aren't all bad. And now, more than a year later, my little Dex doesn't have much in common with the Dex I adopted. He's now goofy, sassy, sweet, gentle and the best dog anyone could ever ask for, it's amazing what love and kindness can do. Because of my fantastic experience with adopting my boy, I became more involved in rescue and had my eyes opened to the joys and heartbreak of rescue.
One thing is always constant, there is never enough money or foster homes for the sweet souls in need. Yet the kind hearted folks at DRNA have a hard time turning any dog away for any reason. We assist in many puppymill raids and were instrumental in rehabilitating about 200 dogs from the WV puppymill raid in Parkersburg of Aug 2008 which was one of the biggest in history. DRNA takes on the hard cases requiring thousands of dollars of vet bills on dogs everyone else has "given up on" and looking into those soft brown eyes saying, "thank you for giving me a second chance" makes it all worth it.
Please consider donating to help those like my sweet Dex who just need a chance to experience love, kindness, and compassion possibly for the first time in their lives.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. No amount is too small - every dollar raised goes directly toward helping the animals!
Dachshund Rescue of North America (DRNA) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization who relies solely on donations to operate. Last year DRNA placed over 500 dachshunds in loving homes across the U.S. and Canada. Most of these dogs came into rescue neither up to date on shots nor spayed or neutered. Some came either with their teeth falling out or needing major medical care. It is because of the generosity of people like you that allow DRNA to continue our mission; finding homes for displaced dachshunds and mostly dachshund mixes.
