Description: Improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, support individuals and families affected by the disease, increase awareness of lupus among health professionals and the public, and find the causes and cure.
Mission: The mission of the Lupus Foundation of America, Illinois Chapter is to address the needs of those affected by lupus, a serious chronic autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system fails to serve its normal protective functions. An estimated 65,000 people in Illinois endure this devastating disease. Roughly 16,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. For 30 years, the Lupus Foundation of America, Illinois Chapter has provided thousands of individuals with the latest medical information, support services, educational seminars, literature and physician referrals. As the number of people diagnosed with lupus rises, LFAI expands to better serve the lupus patient. Without these services, many patients would be without the emotional and medical support they need.

| My personal message: |
In the last several years I have been through many struggles with lupus including acute pericarditis (an inflammation around the heart), anemia, raynaud's, arthritis, chronic fatigue, numerous hospitalizations, low platelets resulting in a splenectomy surgery, avascular necrosis causing me to undergo a total hip replacement surgery and I will soon have arthroscopy procedures done in both knees, as well as total knee replacement. I am only 28 years old.
________________________________________FROM PRESS RELEASE:
On August 23, 2008, some of Chicago's most hilarious stand-up comics will perform a goodbye show for super comedy fan Angelica Busque. Angel, as she is known to her friends, has long been part of the burgeoning underground stand-up comedy scene in Chicago, and could often be seen at open mics and showcases several days a week for the last couple years -- that is, until the autoimmune disease lupus began seriously affecting her health and has now forced her to move back to Detroit, Mich., to be with her family during recovery. Her fervent support of the Chicago comedy scene never stopped, however, and to celebrate 10 years of living in Chicago, she is throwing a comedy show to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America, Illinois Chapter. About Angel:
Angelica M. Busque received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2004 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied experimental sound and video art. She also paints and creates artist books, but is best known for her illustrations in her self-published graphic novel series, Morning Star, which have been displayed in both Chicago's Gene Siskel Film Center, the Chicago Cultural Center, and at the Smithsonian International Gallery in Washington D.C. Busque is a member of the Day2Alliance Artist Collective and the International Arts Movement.
Her web site is located at www.angelbusque.com.
