My personal message:

The Longitude Uncaste Campaign  promotes survival, empowerment, and equality for families in the Dalit villages of Kothasatram and Indiranagar in Andre Pradesh province in Southern India.  The plan in-turn is to make a big impact on many other villages in India struggling under caste discrimination.

My Story:

Through a collaboration of  Association of Relief Volunteers (ARV), Longitude, and Building Communities, I along with 16 volunteers were able to take part in the 2007 Winter Camp India Project.  Together we raised more than $15,000 for building homes in the KI villages and worked hand in hand with skilled village masons in laying bricks and mortar up to roof level for 24 homes.  I also participated in the Children’s Feeding Center, which feeds 1 boiled egg and 1 glass of milk to each child everyday.  I have to say my favorite part of the experience was making friends with the families, especially the adorable children!  They are always in my thoughts and prayers, and my memories of them, their smiles and their kindness are crystal clear.  One thing they taught me is that true happiness lies in the simplicity of life.  On the last day, my fellow volunteers and I couldn't stop crying.  I saw the faces of the children, parents, and elderly I had bonded with, and it broke my heart knowing that I had to say goodbye, at least temporarily.  I was honored and even amazed that I had the opportunity to meet them. Contributing to this program is important to me because I simply love them.  By giving a small donation to the Longitude Uncaste Campaign, you are giving these families a chance to live a healthy life and continue to spread their wisdom to others.

EVEN A LITTLE BIT WILL HELP

$1/day will provide milk & eggs for THREE kids everyday AND provide enough medicine to keep a WHOLE FAMILY healthy.

PROGRESS: $6,214.96

TARGET: $12,000.00

Longitude Uncaste Campaign

Our vision is to get each village to a place of self-sustenance and on the road to being free from oppression in 5-10 years. The plan has three equally important parts:

Survival – Shelter, Food, Medicine

Empowerment – Farming, Trades

Equality – Political lobbying, Raising awareness, Seeking justice

So far, the Longitude Uncaste Campaign has been successful!

Families are settled into their new homes, the kids are gaining strength from all the milk and hard boiled eggs they've received from the Children's Feeding Center, the medical supplies provided by KI-Care are helping to keep everyone healthy and overall the spirit has truly changed for the better in the KI villages.

To bridge the gap between now and then and keep the program in KI from collapsing, we need to raise $12K. This will keep the children's feeding center and the health care program alive for another year. Please, help pave a bright future of prosperity and empowerment for these people and play a significant role in changing the face of history!
