Established in 1950, The Arc of Ohio began as a small group of concerned parents who wanted more for their children with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Today, The Arc of Ohio is the largest statewide advocacy organization assisting persons with cognitive and developmental disabilities in Ohio. The Arc is an integral part of a nationwide, not-for-profit, voluntary movement in tandem with its local chapters throughout the state that advocate for the rights of citizens of all ages with developmental disabilities and their families.
The Arc of Ohio and its chapters create opportunities for and believe in full participation of all citizens with disabilities within their home communities. We are responsible for making and changing policy and creating social transformation.
The Arc of Ohio and its affiliated chapters provide programs, although diverse, in the areas of individual and systems advocacy services, educational community outreach programs, public policy development, family support services and function as a resource center. The Arc of the United States will receive 15 percent of each donation to support national programs and advocacy, with an additional 10 percent devoted to administrative campaign costs.
