Team of Strength at the National Marathon 2012
Join the Team of Strength at the National Marathon on March 17, 2012 and help Advocates for Survivors of Torture and Trauma (ASTT) provide crucial services to torture survivors. ASTT is a 2012 National Marathon Official Charity.
ASTT serves victims of torture and trauma in the Baltimore-Washington area. For 17 years, ASTT has provided strengths based therapy and case management to a vulnerable and largely unrecognized population. ASTT provides direct services and works to eliminate torture in the world, educating the local, national, and international community about the needs of torture victims.
ASTT's clients use running as a therapeutic tool to overcome the mental, emotional, and physical wounds of torture. Four ASTT clients came together to run a relay in the Baltimore Running Festival in 2010. Moved by the strength it takes to run miles and overcome the burdens of torture, we called this group of young people the Team of Strength. After the race, the Team of Strength received an outpouring of community support. Individuals eager to run alongside these courageous young men as they made strides towards individual healing and peaceful community building contacted ASTT to get involved. The Team of Strength has continued to grow stronger, touching the lives of more people each time they run.
As we prepare for the National Marathon, we invite you to join the Team of Strength and help ASTT in its mission to provide vital services to torture survivors. The Team of Strength is about the strength it takes to run mile after mile and the strength of the human spirit.
