Dear Friends of Fred and John,
Summer wanes and it’s beginning to look a lot like September and that means…. the annual “Autumn Escape to the Cape” fund-raising effort is underway. The American Lung Association of Massachusetts has permitted us to use this event as a fundraiser for the Alpha-1 Foundation; last year Team Alpha raised over $10,000! We are joining forces riding for Team Alpha as “TWIN POWER”, and will fundraise together as well. Kailey (Fred’s daughter), and her roommate, Allie, are also riding as team “HOT WHEELS.” Other family members and friends will be volunteering at rest-stops along the 160-mile, three-day bike trek. It’s going to be a fun event.
Over the years we have become ardent advocates and passionate ambassadors for Alpha-1. Alpha-1 took our mother at 46 years of age, and we were both diagnosed 25 years later and realized that mom’s “early onset” emphysema was Alpha-1. Alpha-1 has also affected my sisters’ Sue and Judy’s lives. Alpha-1 has killed dozens of our close friends and colleagues.
We have met many men and women who like us believe that we hold our future in our hands. We know that if we work together, join forces and speak with one voice … we can be heard, we can be seen and more importantly, we can make a difference!
For all those that supported our efforts last year, a much belated thank you. For those who didn’t, here’s another chance. No amount is too small. All proceeds will go to the Alpha-1 Foundation for funding research to find a cure.
Like last year, the Alpha-1 Foundation made the process easier by allowing pledges to be made online. To make an online doantion this year please scroll down and click the Sponsor Me Now button. If you would prefer to send a check, noting it as a pledge in our name for this event, please make it payable to the Alpha-1 Foundation and send it to 2937 SW 27th Ave, Suite 302, Miami, FL 33133.
……
Thank you for your support.
Regards,
John and Fred Walsh
