Elite Ultra-marathon runner Lisa Smith-Batchen is helping the MPD Foundation find a cure for myeloproliferative disorders with her historic participation in the Badwater Ultra Marathon! The Badwater Double Marathon pits some of the world's toughest runners, mountaineers, adventure racers and tri-athletes against each other and the elements for a race through California's Death Valley. Lisa will travel 292 miles when she continues on to summit Mt. Whitney before re-tracing her steps to complete her personal journey. She will be the only woman to have completed the Badwater Double twice. The MPD Foundation is a patient driven organization whose mission is to fund research into the myeloproliferative disorders, a group of rare blood cancers, and connect patients with vital information for their disease. The MPD Foundation is committed to a 5-year, $10 million capital campaign to fund the Research Alliance, a collaboration of leading MPD medical reseachers whose goal is to accelerate the development of new targeted drug therapies for MPD patients.
