Spring is coming and those bassets with those great noses are out exploring!
In the last week - the hounds featured here have come into our care - we actually had 11 intakes, but these three are critical and need your help!
March 7 : Perry - Male Tri - 1-2 years of age - Hit by a car and at East Valley Animal Shelter. No owner came looking and he was to be euthanized - however a wonderful team alerted us to him, and with the help of the Hogan Foundation - Perry has just had surgery for a broken femur and pelvic bone fractures.
March 9: Bernadette- Female Tri 2-3 years of age - Hit by a car and Riverside Animal Shelter had to make a decision - euthanasia that day or call rescue - they called rescue, upon rushing out to the shelter we found out Bernadette was a mix - special calls were made and with the help of our amazing friends, Bernadette is currently in surgery plating pelvic fractures and a femur break.
March 11: Malibu - Female Tri 3-4 years of age - hit by a car and Kings County Animal Shelter could not find a rescue group to help her. Jill at Golden Empire rushed over and picked her up for us - currently being evaluated by one of our vets Dr. Stout - Malibu has multiple pelvic fractures, possible front leg fracture and contusions all over her - emaciated and obviously on the road for some time, Malibu is looking at serious nutritional rehab as well as medical care.
All three hounds are intact. If you have a basset - please make sure they cannot escape, especially as Spring nears and intact canines are moer inclined to go exploring when the call of Spring arrives. We will be facing spay and neuter and vaccinations on all hounds as well -
In the last 10 days, we had 10 adoptions and -2- of our senior babies went to the bridge - in the same 10 days we have had 11 intakes on new hounds, requiring vet care, nutrition and love. Its a very hard time for everyone, the economy is bad, working extra jobs and inflating costs are making all of us tighten our belts - the homeless hounds hav nothing left to give up - won't you help them by making even a small donation to help them continue to have a full belly, vet care and the promise of rescue?
