Our Sequoia Hospital 12 member team "Beachwalkers" (formally known as "sleep walkers") consists of SSU Nurses, Colleen True, Donna Petromilli, Dawn Coffman, Jennifer Kettwig, PACU nurse, Tina Thomsen, former employee of 20 yrs, Donna Rutherford, Anesthesia Coordinator (Team Captain), Pat Bowling and family, Stephanie, Vanessa, Kevin, Jessica and Michelle.

The Relay walk is a 128 mile 12 member team walk from Marin, across the Golden Gate Bridge to the beach in Santa Cruz, promoting the need for organ donation by "Organs `R` Us"

We are doing this  relay in honor of Stephen Beach, PA. Steve was much loved at Sequoia and was an organ donor in 2004 with 80 recipients.

This is Steve's Story. While vacationing in Mexico with his wife, Sylvia and triplet girls, Steve succumbed to a cerebral aneurysm. Despite valiant rescue efforts he was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in LaJolla, California, where he was placed on life-support and awaited his families’ arrival. Several days later Steve was taken off of life-support and became an organ donor. Over 80 people benefited from his donation.

On April 14, 2004, A Celebration of Life, In Loving Memory of Stephen Beach was held at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. Over 600 friends, colleagues and family attended, many of them wore Hawaiian attire to celebrate Steve’s love the Hawaiian Islands.

Steve left behind six children from two marriages. His older children are Mary Beach Weber, Anna Beach and Nathan Beach and younger triplets, Sarah, Taylor and Megan Beach.

Wife and nurse, Sylvia Beach met Steve at Sequoia where they both worked. Steve was a Physician’s Assistant for 18 years. He worked at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City for two different physician’s groups and in Seattle, Washington for a short period of time.

Steve Beach was “one in a million.” All whom he touched loved him. He was smart, calm, friendly, funny and the best Dad in the world. Those who miss him are heartened by the legacy he has left behind, not only his spirit of love and caring, but also the donation of his organs he made to unknown recipients.

This event will honor his memory and help others, which is what Steve’s life was all about.
